You may need an implantable heart rhythm monitor, also called implantable loop recorder (ILR) for different reasons:
Because you have unexplained symptoms, like loss or consciousness or palpitations, and your doctor needs an ECG tracing at the time of the symptoms.
Because you have had a stroke and it is important to know if you do not occasionally have atrial fibrillation, an arrhythmia originating in the heart’s upper chambers which can cause blood clots that can travel to the brain and lead to stroke (for more information on atrial fibrillation, please visit: https://www.afibmatters.org/).
Rarely it can be implanted after a catheter ablation of arrhythmias to monitor the result.
